The FMRI programme is pleased to announce the appointment of a new chair and new members to our Science Advisory Group.

Prof Mark Moore appointed as New SAG Chair

Congratulations to Prof Mark Moore, Professor of Ocean Biogeochemistry from the University of Southampton, who has been selected to succeed Prof Alex Rogers as the new Chair of the FMRI Science Advisory Group (SAG).

I am delighted to be taking on this role. I believe the UK is very well placed to lead on the development of a sustainable and increased capability next generation marine research infrastructure. I thus look forward to working with the rest of the SAG, the wider FMRI programme, NERC and, in particular, working to achieve broadest possible engagement with both the national and international marine research communities, to ensure that decision making is based on the best available scientific advice.

Prof Mark Moore, Chair of the FMRI Science Advisory Group

Welcome to our New Members

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new SAG members and to all those who took the time to apply for these roles through the NERC call. Selected from a strong pool of applicants, the new members address the gaps in SAG skills.

  • Dr Rosalind Coggon Geology, Geochemistry and Sustainable Ocean Management

  • Gabriella Gilkes Marine Research Project Delivery

  • Dr Andrew Meijers Physical Oceanography and Polar

  • Dr Dafni Sifnioti Coastal Science and Modelling

  • Prof Alessandro Tagliabue Biochemistry and Modelling

  • Dr Sebastian Watt Geology and Geophysics

Thank You

The FMRI team would like to express its sincere thanks to outgoing Chair, Prof. Alex Rogers, for the support he has given to the FMRI programme over the past two years. Alex will remain a valued member of the SAG and will be playing a key role in the continued development of the Science Requirements Framework.
