We are delighted to announce that Dr. John Kenny has joined the team as Technical Lead for the Future Marine Research Infrastructure (FMRI) programme.
Strengthening the team
John brings over 15 years of experience in ocean engineering and sustainable marine technologies, including work on subsea autonomous platforms, advanced sensors, and ocean communication networks. With nearly a decade in senior R&D roles, he has led projects from med-tech start-up acceleration to aerospace digital transformation. His appointment strengthens our team as we pursue major funding for world-class ocean science infrastructure.
Collaboration with the marine science community
In his role, Dr. Kenny will facilitate the technical design process for a marine research capability that realises the potential of emerging technologies. He will be collaborating closely with the marine science community to shape a capability that meets the evolving needs of ocean research — from climate monitoring to deep-sea exploration.
“We’re thrilled to welcome John to the team. His depth of expertise and passion for marine innovation will be invaluable as we design future infrastructure that can enable breakthrough research and long-term stewardship of our oceans. With Dr. Kenny on board, we’re poised to take bold steps toward that vision.”
Leigh Storey, Senior Responsible Owner
“It is vitally important to develop and deliver marine research infrastructure that integrates innovation with proven platforms and systems. This will empower the research community to understand the rapid changes in our oceans and help manage some of the most important challenges facing society today.”
