The Future Marine Research Infrastructure (FMRI) programme will convene two significant workshops this month (December) as it progresses plans for the next generation of UK marine science capabilities.
This week (Monday 1 December), members of the FMRI Science Advisory Group are meeting to translate the recently published Science Requirements Framework into a series of specific and detailed use cases. These ‘mission scenarios’ do not seek to capture every possible science mission, but aim to ensure that the full breadth of the marine research community’s infrastructure needs will be captured in the next stage of designing the capability.
Next week (Monday 8 December), FMRI is convening an expert group to identify the technology solutions capable of delivering the identified science missions. Collectively, these workshops represent an important milestone in designing a future-focused infrastructure that supports world-leading marine research.

We look forward to sharing the outcomes of these workshops in 2026. Subscribe to our newsletter for alerts.
